While you are all losing your mind over ‘cultural appropriation” of an Indian dress, nobody actually consulted THE INDIANS.
In our country, if a foreigner wears an Indian saree, we actually appreciate it. It shows that the foreigner respects us enough to try our clothes. And the saree, mind you, is not a religious thing. Hindus can wear sarees, Muslims can wear sarees, Sikh’s can wear sarees, Jain’s can wear sarees and so on.
Like Americans have short dresses, compare that with sarees. Going to a party? Saree. Going to temple? Saree, and so on.
Some Indians wear it, some don’t. Some hate it and think its oppressing, some love embracing the unique style.
Point is, don’t hate on her for wearing this. Don’t hate on anyone for wearing sarees or any variations of sarees. We love to see others embracing our culture. Why do you think we open our gates to allow everyone to practice yoga and find spiritual meaning?
Culture is not meant to be kept within four walls, it should be spread.
I did not know this. That is really interesting to find out. Thanks for the information.

Confession: As an experimentation, I once made a male character who looked very similar to Anora, and had her exact personality. I gave him a name that had no relation to his female counterpart, then I introduced him to a bunch of my friends who hated Anora to see if they’d hate the male version as well. They didn’t. They reacted positively, and said a lot of good things about him. You should have seen their faces when I told them he was just a m!Anora. It was funny, but sad to witness.
Ugh, sadly you hit the nail right on the head, OP. And this is ironically-timed seeing as we were just discussing this last week.
Anora is hated ( mainly ) for 5 reasons:
- She is female
- She is apparently out to ~*steal*~ Alistair from a female PC
- She “betrays” the party after her rescue is foiled and the warden backstabs her first
- She does not ask after the Warden or Alistair’s health if they’re imprisoned after the backstabbing took place
- She is female
A male character with her value, cunning and personality is sadly well-received, because apparently we expect men to be ruthless and ambitious and able to go for what they want, but women can’t. It’s fucked up and sad.
In traditional belief and fiction, a ghost is the soul or spirit of a dead person or animal that can appear, in visible form or other manifestation, to the living. Descriptions of the apparition of ghosts vary widely from an invisible presence to translucent or barely visible wispy shapes, to realistic, lifelike visions. The deliberate attempt to contact the spirit of a deceased person is known as necromancy, or in spiritism as a séance.
